I'm sorry to hear that, and know how you feel. My husband was laid off almost a year ago and hasn't been able to find another job. He has skills, he is a millwright. He goes in and fixes those big machines, and those are the jobs that are going away.
Yes our economy is in the pot.... We have Bush to thank for that. And it seems that our government has a similar plan. They are bailing out the companies that are here and failing, (most due to their own crooked dealings.) at the tax payers expense. Now they say this isn't a bail out, they are buying up the debt and will resell it when the stock prices go up. But is the American citizen going to see any of those profits? No we won't. Will the "normal" American citizen get bailed out when they are going to lose their home? No they won't, they will lose their home and have to grin and bear it.

Well it seems that Bush caused a lot of problems for everyone. He isn't really Mr Popular over in the UK and hasn't been for years so I can only think about the feeling about him in the US. Its a sad thing when your president makes a three year old look intelligent if you ask me.

Yes our economy is in the pot.... We have Bush to thank for that. The President has no control over the economy. It's Congress that's to blame. And even Congress shouldn't have control over it, IMO. Yea it sucks....we might lose our house because my mom can't find a job. I'm really sorry to hear that, too.

Yes in a way he does. He signs all those bills that have been padded with extra goodies for the rich. I forget exactly what that is called, but you know what I mean. He could veto those bills, but he doesn't he passes them. He's made it so that it is more profitable for companies to move out of the US and we are losing jobs. Our economy was in good shape until he took office. The budget was balanced and we had a surplus, now we have a trillion dollar deficit, unemployment rates reaching double digits (And according to the people at the unemployment office, the unemployment rate is actually higher but they are told not to say anything and are supposed to give out lower numbers.), and people losing everything.
I agree that Congress is part of the problem, but Bush shares in that blame. Our whole government is to blame. But Bush as the "leader" should be trying to stop those things, but he doesn't, he just continues to do as he wants, not as the people want.
We will have no change until the American people stand up and say enough is enough. You are working for us, not yourselves. This is a country in which the government is supposed to be for the people by the people, and the sad truth is it isn't and hasn't been for a very long time. It is a government for the rich and powerful, by the rich and powerful.
Even our elections aren't what we want. We can vote for someone and they could win the popular vote, but not the electoral vote and not be elected. This is wrong. The popular vote is the only vote that should matter, as that reflects what the people want. But the sad truth is that what we want doesn't really matter.

This is a country in which the government is supposed to be for the people by the people There was a country like that. They called it Athens...and our forefathers looked at it and regarded it as a regime we should never have, instead choosing Sparta and its oligarchic regime to base our own system on. While many people may think we hold sway over our government, it's quite clearly not true.

That is the problem. We are supposed to have that control. The government is supposed to do as the citizens want. That is what elections are all about. But what good is an election when the results can be changed? We only have the illusion of freedom and control. In reality we have no control, only the rich do and that is exactly what is wrong and needs to be changed.
